Emergency Call Takers – opportunities for internal employees

Our Emergency Call Takers provide a critical service that supports both public and first responder safety, and are the hidden back bone for the work that our first responders carry out in communities across British Columbia. They are often the first point of contact for the people who call 9-1-1 which gives you a chance to assist the public when they are facing a crisis and get them the help they need. They are responsible for receiving emergency and non-emergency calls, providing call-taking services for our Police & Fire agencies, creating reports, and relaying information to dispatchers and appropriate services.

WHAT YOU BRING  

  • Computer Skills | Must be able to type a minimum of 44 WPM during a 5-minute typing test
  • Availability | Ability to work shift work consisting of day & night shifts. 4 On; 4 Off (12-hour shifts)
  • Geography | Knowledge of southwest British Columbia with an emphasis on Vancouver Island area including knowledge of street names, landmarks, tunnels, bridges, and bodies of water.

SECURITY REQUIREMENTS:

Employment is subject to you obtaining and maintaining the required security clearance for E-Comm employees in their respective position(s).


Vaccination Policy: 
E-Comm 911 has a vaccination policy that is currently suspended. However, should the policy be reinstated, it will be a requirement for all current and future employees.

 

JOB DETAILS

  • Number of positions: Minimum of one [1] Police Call Taker position to begin on August 10, 2026
  • Job status: Regular Full-Time
  • Hours of work: 4 On; 4 Off AADD (12-hour shifts)
  • Wage/Salary: PG 20 | $37.33 to $43.97 per hour; $74,734.66 - $88,027 per annum (2025 rates)
  • Employee Group: CUPE, Local 8911
  • Department: Operations
  • Location: E-Comm Vancouver Island
  • Selection Process: A behavioural and situational based panel interview will be used. A signed file review summary form outlining any documented issues related to attendance, performance or conduct will be completed by your current supervisor as part of the application process. Relevant issues may prevent a candidate from moving through the selection process.
  • Eligibility list: An eligibility list may be created from the competition results of this posting, and used to fill PCT vacancies (RFT or TFT) which may arise in the six [6] month period following this posting.
  • Training: Training will be offered for this position.
