Directly reporting to an ECC Supervisor, the Emergency Communications Operator 2 [ECO 2] is responsible for being situationally aware of incidents in different police agencies that E-Comm partners with and allocating police resources upon receipt of CAD calls from 911 or other appropriate workgroups.  At all times, the ECO 2 works professionally and collaboratively with other Communications Operators and Call Takers.  This position requires the ability to multitask effectively by coordinating police response and continuous updates to a variety of calls including high priority incidents that may be a risk to attending officers and/or the public via radio and/or CAD systems and other technology as required.  They also support police operations by tactically analyzing events, providing continuous risk assessment, changing priorities and situations, and acquiring the necessary resources that are required to bring the call to a successful conclusion. Professional communication and collaboration with external partners and, officers, and NCO’s is a must.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Performing all the duties required of an ECO 1.

Responsible for responding to emergency call reports requiring Police personnel and resources; dispatching appropriate equipment and personnel; maintaining contact with same throughout the call; and completing all necessary reports.

Responsible for effective and professional communication with field units and others involved in reported events.

Responsible for keeping current on backup procedures and for performing job functions on a manual system in the event of a primary system failure.

Responsible for communicating and cooperating with other local emergency service agencies, including provincially dispatched services, and makes decisions to request services / resources from same as required.

Responsible for the involvement of other agencies required for a call such as EOC, PEP, Search and Rescue, Public Works Branch, B.C. Hydro, BC Transit.

Communicates with other dispatchers, call takers, and the Team/Shift Supervisor regarding available resources, calls received such as Priority 1 calls, and services deployed.

Makes recommendations to the Team/Shift Supervisor to set up a breakout channel for an event based upon circumstances and the information being received from partner agencies in the field.

Responds to requests for information from field units by accessing and using CPIC and other information sources.

Assists others in gaining familiarization with the communications operations of E-Comm by allowing E-Comm staff members, staff from other Emergency Services Agencies and authorized members of the public to listen to and observe their daily activities.

Accountable for being familiar with the Disaster Plans for each jurisdiction served.

Responsible for maintaining geographical knowledge of the areas dispatched and maintaining any related reference materials.

Responsible for being familiar with the unique aspects of services dispatched: e.g. incidents that require special resources such as Air Services, ERT, Dog Squad, or Accident Investigation.

Liaises in a timely manner with a team supervisor to report any operational challenges that impacts their ability to perform these tasks or deliver this service.

Performs related work as required.

Attends court to give evidence, when required. 

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

Grade 12 diploma supplemented by courses in communications operations.

Experience as an emergency services call taker or dispatcher.

Excellent computer and keyboarding skills in a Windows environment. 

As a condition of employment at E-Comm, the required Police Security Clearance applicable to the position must be acquired and maintained. This is a process carried out by our law enforcement partner agencies, facilitated by E-Comm.

 JOB DETAILS

  • Wage/Salary: PG 22 | $39.16 to $46.07 hourly; $78,398 to $92,232 annually (2024 rates)
  • Hours of work: 4 on 4 off, AA/DD, 12-hour shifts

  • Training: Training will not be offered for this position.
  • Team Assignment: This posting does not imply nor conclude team assignment(s). Team assignments are determined at the completion of the recruitment process by the Operations Manager and Workforce Management.  All applicants must be agreeable to team changes for training and final assignment. Vacation may also need to be adjusted depending on Team assignment.
