We're looking for new internal talent to join our Police team in helping to save lives and protect property.

Our Emergency Police Call Takers provide a critical service that supports both public and first responder safety, and are the hidden back bone for the work that our first responders carry out in communities across British Columbia. They are often the first point of contact for the people who call 9-1-1 which gives you a chance to assist the public when they are facing a crisis and get them the help they need. They are responsible for receiving emergency and non-emergency calls, providing call-taking services for our Police agencies, creating reports, and relaying information to dispatchers and appropriate services.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Computer Skills | Must be able to type a minimum of 44 WPM during a 5-minute typing test
  • Availability | Ability to work shift work consisting of day & night shifts. 4 On; 4 Off, 12-hour shifts, AA/DD
  • Geography | Knowledge of southwest British Columbia with an emphasis on the southern Vancouver Island region

NICE TO HAVE

  • Additional education | Courses in public safety, emergency communications, or criminology.
  • Volunteer or work experience | Experience working in a Public Safety or Emergency Services environment.
  • Superb geography knowledge | Knowledge of British Columbia Geography at a high level. This can include knowledge of street names, landmarks, tunnels, bridges, and bodies of water.

SECURITY REQUIREMENTS:

Employment is subject to you obtaining and maintaining the required security clearance for E-Comm employees in their respective position(s).

Vaccination Policy: E-Comm 911 has a vaccination policy that is currently suspended. However, should the policy be reinstated, it will be a requirement for all current and future employees.

JOB DETAILS

  • Number of positions: Minimum of 7 Police Call Taker positions to begin Monday, June 24, 2024
  • Job status: Regular Full-Time
  • Hours of work: 4 On; 4 Off, 12-hour shifts, AA/DD
  • Wage/Salary: PG 20 | $36.07 to $42.48 per hour; $72,212 - $85,044 per annum (2024 rates)
  • Employee Group: CUPE, Local 8911

  • Location: E-Comm Vancouver Island (Commerce Circle, Saanich, BC)
  • Selection Process: The successful candidate will be selected after completion of a TalentClick assessment (if required), Recruitment Testing Session (if required) and behavioral/scenario based interviews. A signed file review summary form will be completed by your current supervisor as part of the application process.
  • Interviews will be held on Monday, June 3 and Tuesday, June 4.
  • An Eligibility List may be utilized for this competition for a period of six (6) months.
